In Florida, psychotherapists who wish to work as Sex Therapists must meet specific educational requirements as described in Florida Law.
Rule 64B4-7.004 (2005) Use of the Title "Sex Therapist" -- "Any licensed clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, or mental health counselor who holds himself out as a sex therapist shall have completed a minimum of 120 hours of approved education and twenty (20) hours of clinical case supervision." The Institute is also an approved provider of sex therapy training by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).
The One-Year Training Institute meets monthly for one year to offer the complete 120-hour curriculum. Twenty (20) hours of Individual and Group Clinical Case Supervision is also completed within the one year.

Jefferson University has a Master’s degree in family therapy and offers a sex therapy track. This program is organized in collaboration by Jefferson University and Council For Relationships. The sex therapy track is offered as an elective of the couple and family therapy program. In addition to the family therapy courses there are three courses in sex therapy offered in conjunction with Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR) experience. The program also includes a sex therapy practicum, which can be at the Institute of Sex Therapy, as well as supervision. Typically the program can be completed in 2 years if it is done as a full-time student.

Widener University offers a Human Sexuality Education program. Depending on your interests and specialization you may opt for a MEd or EdD in Human Sexuality. This unique program also allows students to pursue a combination degree Widener’s Center for Social Work Education or Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology; therefore, students may earn either an MSW/MEd or PsyD/MEd. There are many joint degrees you may choose to seek at Widener as the human sexuality specialization is offered in several forms (social work, education, and clinical psychology). Both degrees are a great start for a career in sex therapy as the program has been approved by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) for meeting their certificate requirements.
Widener is the only accredited doctoral human sexuality education program in the United States as it meets APA (American Psychological Association) standards.
