Philosophy
I take a humanistic approach to therapy in that I encourage a collaborative relationship between myself and my client. I use cognitive-behavioral strategies to address problematic thoughts and behaviors as well as psychodynamic techniques to uncover and address the root of the problem. I also work from a systemic framework believing that individuals are constantly being influenced and affected by other individuals and systems around them. I believe in taking an active role in the session by educating and sharing my therapeutic expertise but am also supportive and empathetic with my clients as they explore and process their problems and concerns.
Degree(s), Certification(s) & Work History
I received a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University in 1999 and a Ph.D in Human Sexuality Education from Widener University in 2010. I have a variety of counseling experience working with individuals, couples, and families. I have worked in outpatient, residential, and in-home settings. I have experience working with a variety of concerns including child’s behavioral problems, parenting concerns, chronic mental illness, depression, anxiety, relationship/marital problems, infidelity, addictions, and grief and loss. I also have experience working with sexual concerns such as sexual pain, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, sexual addiction, orgasmic difficulties, low sexual desire, sexual trauma, and sexual orientation confusion.
